Description

Hey Chipsters, this is the TZATZIFFY, SD card only.
It will add a micro SD Card slot on the back, connected to CHIP via SDIO interface (faster compared to SPI).

95% solder free installation
Simply stack the DIP between CHIP and pocketCHIP. Just push the DIP on the pins of pocketCHIP, the SD card jack should face down (towards battery) and in CHIPs direction (so you can see it without CHIP being installed). The DIP is designed to connect to the pins of pocketCHIP by bending them a tiny bit. I’ve tinkered a long time (12 prototypes) to get a reliable connection without too much bending. The 95% refers to the chance that it will work for YOU. I’ve tested this design on both of my pocketCHIP and many others, who ordered this DIP before reported that it worked flawlessly. But it is still possible that your pocketCHIP has a bit more spacing between the headers or smaller pins (due to production variation) so there is the chance that you don’t have good contact and need to solder the board to get good connection.

Base software installation:

First step for all versions is to clone my github respository to get all required files:

sudo apt update && sudo apt install git -y && cd /opt/ && sudo git clone https://github.com/KoljaWindeler/CHIP_TZATZIFFY.git

The new 3D OS4.4

To start the SD card once on 3d OS4.4 simply run:

sudo /opt/CHIP_TZATZIFFY/overlay/load.sh

you can also let it auto-load on every start by running my installer once:

sudo /opt/CHIP_TZATZIFFY/overlay/install_sd_only.sh

The old OS4.4

OS4.4 does not support loading of device tree overlays on runtime. I’ve compiled a kernel that supports it.
The command below will install my custom kernel.

cd /tmp && wget https://owncloud.illuminum.de/index.php/s/5GjdNY2BWzEdDOw/download && cd / && sudo tar xzvf /tmp/download && sudo reboot now

To start the SD card on this OS4.4 simply run:

sudo /opt/CHIP_TZATZIFFY/overlay/load.sh

For PocketCHIP 4.3

Please install a custom device tree file, that will tell the kernel that a card is always present. Please run

sudo cp /boot/sun5i-r8-chip.dtb /boot/sun5i-r8-chip.dtb.bak && sudo cp /opt/CHIP_TZATZIFFY/overlay/pchip/sun5i-r8-chip.dtb /boot/sun5i-r8-chip.dtb

This is another extension that started in the Forum and was only possible with the support of the glorious CHIP community! For completeness: The PCB is the same as the fully blown Tzatziffy, only with a drastic reduce set of components.

    I have the original tzatziki. Works great at a spacer between the Hummus and HDMI DIP (the HDMI connector and ethernet are on the same side, so they don’t stack as well).

    Since the tzatziki wasn’t notched, I realized that the salsa silk screen is a easy way to tell how to orient it.

    This is just amazing! I am really blown away how fast it arrived, ant works great. To help a little for others with fstab option:
    /dev/mmcblk0p1 /media/SD vfat noauto,user,uid=chip,gid=chip 0 2

    This works great for me. Of course the /media/SD directory can be different but i like to mount in the media folder. You need to do sudo mkdir /media/SD, than sudo chown chip:chip /media/SD and sudo chmod 775 /media/SD and that is all. I tried to do automount on boot, but pchip freez and lock up on boot..:(

    Worked flawlessly, couldn’t have been easier. I’m running a PocketCHIP w/ 3D 4.4 and I just put in a Micro SD, popped the Tzatziffy II in, and followed the instructions on the product page (just a git clone & run a shell script then reboot) and in 90 seconds from the time I opened the package I had 16GB more space to store funny cat GIFs.

    Fine product, worked correctly and took minimal installation effort. If you need storage for your PocketCHIP this is the simplest solution.

    I installed the board really easily. It fits snugly but not too tight in my Pocket C.H.I.P (OS4.4). Your instructions are clear and I cloned the repository and ran the installer to auto load on boot without any issues.
    I have a FAT formatted microSD inserted. What do I do to access the data on the MicroSD? Do I need to run a command to mount it in /media/ ?
    Thanks for making this cool product.

    Awesome, just awesome. It took me one minute to install, another two to set it up according to the instructions here, and Voila ! it works (I formatted a 128 GB SDcard with ext4 and it’s perfect).

    Only comment would be that the legends on the PCB itself aren’t helpful in how to orient it, but the picture here saved the day.

    Arrived so quickly! Much sd flawless worked

    Installed easily and I had to ssh in to install the software but I prefer that way cause I never copy stuff properly by reading then typing I had an
    Exfat formatted card so I had to add a Debian bit but it works wonderfully and the spacing makes the lights on chip more useful
