Hey Chipsters, this is the TZATZIFFY, a display / SD card / audio amplifier extension for chip.

But have a look yourself:

Features are:

  • Micro SD Card slot on the back, connected to CHIP via SDIO interface (faster compared to SPI)
  • DC/DC display back-light driver that works with all 40mA Displays. I’ve tested multiple inexpensive 5″ and 7″ Displays, e.g. this 5″ or this 7″ for only $25
  • 40-pin 0.5mm ZIF display adapter for resistiv touchscreen enabled displays (usually 800 x 480)
  • Small 3W audio amplifier to connect some tiny speakers to chip.
  • Dedicated micro USB Jack to power the Board + CHIP with only one power source

Base installation: (Please make sure you have at least Version 4.4 installed)

First step is to clone my github respository to get all the required files:

sudo apt update && sudo apt install git -y && cd /opt/ && sudo git clone

The fully equipped Tzatziffy II carries a EEPROM to fulfill the NTC requirement of auto configuration. All you need is to add this dtbo file to your chip:

sudo /opt/CHIP_TZATZIFFY/overlay/chip/

Screen and resolution:

CHIP would now be able to turn the screen on (after a reboot) but will still show you a strange screen if you use a screen with a resolution of 800×480, you can fix it by downloading my xorg.conf with this command:

sudo cp /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf.bak; sudo cp /opt/CHIP_TZATZIFFY/scripts/xorg.conf /etc/X11/

Audio and muting:

The onboard audio amplifier on CHIP can be disabled with software control to listen to audio via the audio-jack and headphones and to save battery power. You can run them via

sudo /opt/CHIP_TZATZIFFY/scripts/  or sudo /opt/CHIP_TZATZIFFY/scripts/

And control the volume via

Also have a look how to connect a hardware volume control: Guide

SD card

OS4.4 +  full-blown-tzatziffy

The SD card will work “out-of-the-box” with a fully equipped TZATZIFFY.
